Standard 2: Educators Act Ethically and Maintain the Integrity, Credibility, and Reputation for the Profession.

“Educators are role models. Educators are held to a higher standard and are accountable for their conduct on duty and off duty. Educators understand the law as it relates to their duties. Educators’ individual conduct contributes to the perception of the profession as a whole. Educators know and recognize the importance of the Professional Standards for BC Educators.”

To be able to teach students, we need to have a relationship with them. They need to be able to trust and depend on us. This is all shown to them by being a good role model. It’s important for us to teach our students how to be good human-beings, and we can do this by demonstrating good behaviour at all times and by managing difficult situations in a controlled way.

Our behaviour matters in the school but also when we are outside of the school as well. Eyes will always be upon us so we have to be careful to present ourselves in a way that we can be proud of. Our conduct as an individual reflects on all teachers as a whole.
